Free at Last

The age of the helmet is officially OVER! Went to Oakland yesterday to get a routine adjustment. The night before when I had given him his 1 hour of "de-smelling" I noticed that the skin on both sideburn areas was really inflamed and rashy. So bad that I didn't have him sleep with it on (something I've never done). I figured he had probably grown and thank goodness we were going to Oakland in the morning. When we got there and took the helmet off the next morning there were red spots and inflammation all over his head! Later I even noticed some crusted sores in the back of his head where the skin had broken. I swear he must of grown over the weekend! Our wonderful orthotist reported that he had grown almost an entire centimeter! (In the past it was only like a milimeter each time). She agreed that his head looked fabulous and it was our decision whether or not to stop treatment. We had already decided before this growth that we were happy enough with the results and wanted to dump the helmet, this was just a bonus!

We are so grateful we were able to get this treatment but we are so glad we don't have to deal with the helmet maintenance anymore. In the past he would roll over really fast and slam his head into the floor and think nothing of it, or he would push his head against my wood bed frame trying to get a toy that had escaped underneath...I hope he doesn't suffer too many head injuries trying to "adjust" to life w/out a helmet for protection! He is so adorable and I love going to get him out of his bed and seeing his beautiful head!

Goal!!!!

Katrina scored her first Goal! She's an aggressive little soccer player and we couldn't be happier that she actually goes after the ball instead of playing with sticks. Payton is enjoying Flag Football and last week his coach had the team pay attention to how well he throws the ball to a team member while avoiding interception. He was glowing. Sometimes we have to go back and forth between the 2 kids games because they are going on at the same time. As a result of this I missed Payton trying to get a touchdown. He said, "Mom! I had the ball and no one was able to get my flag!" I said, "Nice Job! How far did you get?" He said, "Well, I tripped and fell right after someone tried to grab it." He's so cute and most importantly, he's just having a great time.
