Jay worked from home last Wednesday so I left Tyson sleeping and took a walk around the block with Bella on her bike. She has one of those yellow trike numbers with the big handle in the back for the parent to push. We went to the park and I did my good mommy monthly activity and played with her, then we headed back. As we passed our neighbors house she was outside with her 2 twins that Bella knows from Church and is good friends with. A conversation happened with not many words, but using more of "toddler language". You know how they clam up when something is bothering them? It went like this
(Names of friends have been changed to protect the innocent)
TwinBoy: Hi Bella!
Bella: (Says Nothing, but looks at him out of the corner of her eyes while staring straight ahead)
At this point I'm suprised because she typically loves to talk to these 2....then it hits me that she is feeling the dreaded "Toddler Possessiveness".
Here is my interpretation of what happened next as I watched my toddler's face
TwinBoy: Hi Bella! Suweeeet bike! I wanna touch it!
Bella: Dude, you better step off, this is my
propertyTwinGirl: Bella! Great to see you! Nyce Ride! I just want to touch it with one finger!
Bella(panicking): They're touching my bike! They're touching my bike!
TwinBoy: Can I take it for a spin?
Bella: (Desperately trying to Flinstone walk away with her bike)
BothTwins: Come Back Bella! We want a ride!
The entire 3 minute visit Bella never said a single word to friends she normally loves to play with, she just panicked and cried till we left.
Lesson Learned: Don't mess with a girl and her bike
